Dream Games raises $155m bringing total valuation to $1bn
In March of this year, the Istanbul-based firm released its first game. This is a huge step forward for the firm, which only 3.5 months ago received $50 million (the biggest Series A in Turkish startup history). Index Ventures and Makers Fund are co-leading this round, with Balderton Capital, IVP, and Kora also participating.
Dream Games, a mobile game developer, has secured $155 million in a Series B round of investment, bringing the company’s valuation to $1 billion. The popularity of Dream Games’ initial match-3 title, Royal Match, which was released in March 2021, is mainly responsible for the company’s $1 billion value.
Royal Match, according to the company, has climbed into the top 20 grossing games in the United States, the United Kingdom, and Germany in the three months after its debut. Around the time of the game’s release, the Turkish studio also received $50 million in series investment.
Soner Aydemir, co-founder and CEO of Dream Games, said,
We are highly focused on developing amazing games that appeal to all sorts of gamers throughout the world. We are quite happy with Royal Match’s early success and want to use the funds to expand the game worldwide. We are really encouraged by our investors’ belief in Dream Games’ potential.
In an interview with GamesBeat, Soner Aydemir, CEO of Dream Games, claimed that the success of mobile gaming firms has encouraged Turkish entrepreneurs, and it is providing young people a lot of incentive to establish their successful businesses.
It also follows a flurry of other game and developer mergers in Turkey, the most notable of which saw Zynga acquire Peak Games for $1.8 billion, among other acquisitions. Peak alums have launched several companies in the area, including Dream.
The funding represents Turkey’s largest Series B round and the most recent mobile gaming unicorn. A unicorn is a company that has a market capitalization of $1 billion or more. Dream Games raised $50 million in March of this year and $7.5 million in 2018.
The round follows Dream’s first game Royal Match’s enormous success, which entered the top 20 grossing games in the United States, the United Kingdom, and Germany in only three months.
