Alba: A Wildlife Adventure by Ustwo Games took up the prestigious Game of the Year award as well as the Most Significant Impact prize at the Games for Change Awards.

Ustwo’s game was originally a mobile game. Then it transferred to consoles in June, follows a little girl as she fights to save her island’s wildfire. Ustwo, in collaboration with the organization Ecologi, planted a tree for every download of Alba.

At the time of writing, the game has planted 736,565 trees, with Ustwo intending to plant one million by the end of the year.

Lost Words: Beyond the Page by Sketchbook Games also took up two awards at the Games for Change Awards: Most Innovative and Best Gameplay.

Gambridzy’s won the prize for Best Learning Game. The Quadcade, a partnership between the MICA Game Lab, the Maryland Blended Reality Center, and the University of Maryland Medical Center’s Shock Trauma unit won the Wednesday and Best XR for Change Experience awards.

The game intends to investigate how virtual reality games can aid in the rehabilitation of spinal cord injuries.
